A lower grade park cricketer has spent all Monday being compared to the T20 World Cup’s latest cult hero.
The only thing Belconnen Bulls sixths player Charlie shares with the Netherlands’ Tim Pringle is they both wear glasses and bowl left-arm off-spin, but that didn’t stop Bulls teammates gleefully tagging Charlie in every single article and meme about Pringle (following his tidy 1/13 and vital 15 runs off 16 balls in the Netherlands’ win over the UAE).
At first he was annoyed by the comparison, figuring his teammates were just taking the piss, but he started to appreciate Pringle after watching his four overs on Kayo.
”It was perfect T20 spin bowling. He gave nothing away, bowled a great length – either into the pitch or full, and at speeds between the mid-80s and mid-90s. And his wicket was a cracker! I hope he gets picked up in a T20 league or The Hundred. I could learn a lot from him,” said Charlie.
”I’d love to be in his shoes! I’m playing sixths with a bunch of dickheads and he’s an international cricketer! And it’s a zillion times better than being compared to Harry f****g Potter or old mate with the glasses from The Inbetweeners. May as well lean in and enjoy it while it lasts.”
Charlie later changed his Facebook profile pic to a photo of Pringle’s bowling action, and even changed his nickname on the Belco Sixths Boys Messenger group chat to ‘Tim Pringle’s Clone’, which his teammates enjoyed.
Everyday News is a brand new general news/parody section of The Gurgler, and definitely not a lame rip-off of ‘The Betoota Advocate’. We swear.
