EVERYDAY NEWS – The ‘Cricket Widow’ Season Begins

With the summer cricket season in full swing around Australia, it’s also time for the nation’s ‘cricket widows’ to enjoy their free Saturdays.

Kate Chapman is a recent ‘cricket widow’, but is quickly adapting.

“At first I tried to support Peter (who’s the fifth grade wicketkeeper for the Belconnen Bulls and her boyfriend of five months) and went to a few of his games, but I was so f*****g bored that I fell asleep in the car.”

Now Kate enjoys Saturdays to herself.

“Peter leaves about 11am, so use the morning to catch up on housework and then spend the afternoon either shopping, at the movies, or I might have a session with the girls. And then I get takeout for dinner as neither us can be bothered to cook. Peter’s usually so buggered from cricket and post-game drinks that he’s in bed by 9pm. So I use that time to catch up on telly or the sappy movies that Peter hates. I’m flat out at work during the week, and I play social basketball on Wednesdays, so the ‘me’ time is invaluable. And let’s just say he makes it up to me on Sunday mornings.

Everyday News is a brand new general news/parody section of The Gurgler, and definitely not a lame rip-off of ‘The Betoota Advocate’. We swear.
