Terry, a diehard Canberra Raiders fan now living in Melbourne, has come down quickly after the Raiders’ big win on Saturday night.
Following the high of going to AAMI Park with his fellow Raiders faithful to watch Canberra’s 28-20 elimination final win over the Melbourne Storm, Terry was planning to do some light-hearted needling of his co-workers on Monday.
This is how it went:
Terry (entering the office wearing his favourite Raiders retro hoodie): How good was the footy on Saturday?
Co-worker: You mean the Pies game? I didn’t watch it, but my brother’s a mad Collingwood fan, went to the game, and had a great time. Apparently they won pretty easily.
Terry: No, the Raiders knocked the Storm out! Your Storm! The one you Mexicans are meant to support!
Co-worker: Oh, you mean the Rugby? Nobody gives a shit about that here!
Terry (starting to get frustrated): It’s not the Rugby! It’s Rugby League and Rugby Union! Two completely different sports!
Co-worker: Whatever mate! Both sports are stupid! Go back to bloody Sydney if you love it so much!
Terry (at bursting point now): Whatever! I’ve got work to do!
With that, an angry and disappointed Terry walked to his desk and put his headphones in, where he was heard muttering “why do I even bother?” a few times in the next hour before eventually calming down.
