Welcome to the Gurgler’s Weekend Wash Up. See what we did there? Gurgler, Wash Up? Down the drain? Anyways, the reason for the Wash Up is to have a look back on the weekend of sport that was.
But instead of letting us do the wrapping, we open it up to our readers. We supply a variety of choice sporting questions from the weekend and deliver the results in visuals. We also take the best free form comments along the way.
This week focuses on the big show that is the Super Bowl, Saturday’s first taste of NRL, Australia v Sri Lanka T20 and Football.
So if you’re into looking back, or catching up, here is the latest Weekend Wash Up.
WAS WHAT THE BEST PART OF THE SUPER BOWL TODAY?
The Super Bowl is one of the biggest annual sporting events in the world and it eventually finished sometime around lunch on Monday morning Australian time. Of course we are being a bit of a smart arse here, it’s so easy to pick on an NFL for taking forever. But that’s the way the above voting went. Some were impressed by the 90’s music fest on offer, and others didn’t even know or care.
Comments:
I only tuned in for the half time show, and thought it was outstanding.
M. Meldrum, Melbourne
I bet you like a Super Bowl Mr Meldrum…
D. Knee, Melbourne
Couldn’t care less about this seppo bullsh!t.
Chad, Ipswich (QLD)
Why does a 48 min game take 5 hours??

SHOULD THE NRL MAKE EVERY TEAM DEVISE A PRE MATCH RITUAL LIKE THE ALL STARS GAME?
The NRL’s All Star Game between the Indigenous and Maori sides was a great way to start the season, and for many the pre match rituals from both sides were the best part. So we asked the question to our weekend wrappers, and the answer was pretty conclusive.
Comments:
That’s a real cheap attempt at comedy.
Suri, ABC Viewer
I think it would be fantastic. Imagine the Broncos doing An Australian Outback Spectacular or Souths doing a historic reenactment of the origins of the Rabbitoh nickname. Or dare I say, getting a Dragon involved for the Dragons. Or a giant Storm before each Melbourne game. This stuff writes itself.

WHAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE AUSTRALIA v SRI LANKA T20’s
Not enough cricket for you? Well for some it was. A few meaningless T20s squeezed in with the AFLW, A League and State One Day comp. Sounds like not many would know or care that it was on, and so our voting proves. As ever there was some time for Shane Warne. Or not.
Comments:
Bloody Shane Warne for three hours straight. I thought the summer of hell was over.
Alex, Box Hill
I’m surprised Shane Warne didn’t say he could have won that T20.
Sally, Kingswood
Why am I being picked on here every week? F— you everyone.
Shane W, Melbourne
WAS IS THE BIGGEST WASTE OF MONEY CURRENTLY IN SPORT
The IPL auction was on over the weekend which inspired this question. It was a televised spectacle that made the Brownlow count look like The Running Man.
Over $1m for a cricket player who probably won’t play a minute? That sure sounds like a giant waste of money and some of our readers thought so. But then chose other options with some sporting politics scores to settle.
Comments:
I will not answer this question without a payment of US$1M to a secret bank account in the Bahamas in advance.
