Welcome to the Gurgler’s Weekend Wash Up. See what we did there? Gurgler, Wash Up? Anyways, the reason for the Wash Up is to have a look back on the weekend of sport that was.
But instead of letting us do the wrapping, we open it up to our readers. We supply a variety of choice sporting questions from the weekend and deliver the results in visuals. We also take the best free form comments along the way.
This week focuses on the huge achievement of Ash Barty, more Australian Open tennis discussion, and see off the Big Bash season with a question or two.
So if you’re into looking back, or catching up, here is the first Weekend Wash Up.
AFTER HER HUGE AUSTRALIAN OPEN WIN – IS ASH BARTY NOW THE GREATEST IPSWICH SPORTING PRODUCT?
Move over Alfie, The Gurgler readers have spoken. And rightly so, winning the home grand slam after a 40+ drought is special, as is being number one in the world. Looks like Alfie might have to drop his pants at a local bar to take back the title.
SHOULD ASH BARTY HAVE A BEER ON TV AFTER HER WIN?
Queenslanders unsurprisingly have no problem with a beer and a bit of TV. Audience more in tune with their feelings felt more nervous. ABC viewers were getting their letters to the editor ready at the time of polling and/or writing to their local newspaper as either Outraged / Concerned.
Comments:
What a bloody ledgend Ash is. She’s always welcome to share a Gold or two out my way whether she wins or not..

Who says she can’t have a Corona on TV. What a winner. F–k anyone who says she can’t.
Terry, Yamanto
I’m surprised Dan Andrews didn’t try and put her in quarantine for holding a Corona.

WHO WAS THE BIGGEST 2022 AUSTRALIAN OPEN JERK?
Despite the losing finalist Russian trying his best, Novax still tops the Jerk of the Tournament with his pre-tournament house of lies. A few went for the crowd themselves, who were ordinary at times. A few votes for Nick Kyrgios came from Melbourne.
Comments:
Kyrgios is a dick.

DID THE BIG BASH GO ON FOR TOO LONG?
Hard to argue against the results here. Not one person saying they’d like more, and an increasing volume who think it goes on too long. They have a point too. So does this article from The Roar. Less is much more here.
Comments:
Maybe it’s the Corona lockdown light, or that I have just not drank enough this summer, but the Big Bash really felt like it dragged on this year. It doesn’t help their final series has 4th v 5th in the ultimate reward for mediocrity. Or that Covid and scheduling meant they were picking players from fishing, country ranches and swimming pools to play.
Gary, Altona
DID THE BEST PLAYER GET THE ALLAN BORDER MEDAL?
The left armer paceman certainly picked up his game this season, but was he the best player on the park. Well we say that Australia was spoiled for choice for great players this season, while England would have to do a whip around for one to nominate. But our readers have voted no, and one person has joined our comments to add more.
Comments:
I know Cricket more than anyone, so I when I talk everyone should listen. So, F–k Mitchell Starc and anyone who disagrees with me ever.

OUR READERS RATING OF THE BRISBANE HEAT BIG BASH SEASON?
The Brisbane Heat were once an exciting cricketing juggernaut, but according to our readers they have run out of steam. Covid didn’t help as they need a whole new team at one stage, but neither did Chris Lynn who used to be a one man excitement machine.
