Australian TV’s big night has been run and won, with a surprise Gold winner, but we wonder how many of this year’s crop of winners will become Forgotten Logie Winners.
We have already had our moan about the Logies in general with our Weekly Gripe about Jimmy Giggle deserving Gold, so instead of moaning about something we didn’t really care about, we offer up our favoruite forgotten Logie winners of the past 30 years.
Our Crap Fantales return, which if you don’t know is our celebration of the forgotten and the forgettable. Remembering those people, events and things whose moment in the spotlight was bright but brief.
This time our Crap Fantales presents our favourite Forgotten Logie Winners of the Past 30 Years. Enjoy our list and the occasional Youtube clip.
Best Forgotten Logie Winners of the Past 30 Years
1989 – WOMBAT – Best Children’s Show
A children’s show we can barely remember, featuring Agro. What more could kids want.
1991 – MICHAEL CRAIG – Best Actor (GP)
A staple of the ABC back in the day, this was the thinking man’s A Country Practice for the City of which Michael Craig was the undoubted star.
1992 – BRUCE SAMAZAN – Best Actor (E Street)
You forget just how big Bruce Samazan was at the time. He featured regularly in all the TV magazines back in the day, and was a genuine superstar in Australia. Thankfully he made a music video like a lot of wannabe pop star-actors back in the 80’s and early 90’s. Potential for I’m A Celebrity.
1994 – REAL LIFE – Best Current Affairs Show
This was from a scary era where there were current affairs showing on all three major channels. Big TV man Stan Grant was the host, before it all became Today Tonight. Sadly just one remains – A Current Affair – and that is sad only because A Current Affair still remains at all.
1996 – DON’T FORGET YOUR TOOTHBRUSH – Best Light Entertainment
Hosted by the former DAAS Kapital member Tim Ferguson, this was a game show of sorts. But like most concepts, personalities from the ABC to Channel Nine it didn’t work out for long. Not that it was Tim Ferguson’s fault, as he was quite, and only working with what he had.
1996 – MURUROS ATOLL PROTESTS – Best News Coverage
Back when the French blowing up bombs in Mururoa Atoll in the Pacific was one of our worst problems.
1998 – GOOD GUYS, BAD GUYS – Drama – Nominated only
OK, so not one that went on to be one of the official Forgotten Logie Winners, as it came second, but was too good a Crap Fantale to not be included.
2001 – DOGWOMAN – THE LEGEND OF DOGWOMAN – Movies – Nominated only
Yeah, we weren’t sure either. It was on Channel Nine,
2002 – ROUND THE TWIST – (Best Children’s Row.
There’s a certain wedge of Australian children who will recall the below TV intro. Very few of them will be able to remember much more. We can’t.
