2017 nrl season review

Here is our NRL Round 15 Preview. Full of tips, the smallest game by game preview, answers to the big questions, and almost more.

Onto the second edition of the rubbish that is the 4 game round. Perhaps this one is even worse than the first round of four fixtures, as there are no less than 21 players unavailable this weekend. A whole team plus a few out due to Origin.

We bitched about it for years, but the NRL don’t care, only an organisation that hopeless, and swept up in Origin and Marvel Heroes jerseys would ruin a competition the way the NRL does.

So in honour of the red headed stepchild that is NRL Round 15, we will give it our least convincing preview ever.

THE NRL ROUND 15 PREVIEW MATCH BY MATCH IN 20 WORDS OR LESS OR SO

FRIDAY – RABBITOHS(14th) v TITANS(13th)

Have these sides turned the corner? Souths have awoken from their mediocre slumber and looked good in patches v Broncos last weekend, the Titans were thrashed at home by the highly unreliable away side the Warriors.

SATURDAY – STORM (1st) v COWBOYS (7th)

These teams supply 9 players to Origin between them, and as a result is a Queensland Cup special.

SATURDAY – SHARKS (3rd) v WESTS TIGERS (15th)
Both sides missing plenty of Origin stars. At least the Sharks get most of theirs back for 2018.

SUNDAY EELS (9th) – DRAGONS (4th)

Has the Dragons bubble burst? Couldn’t score more than two points against a previous hapless Bulldogs who had let in plenty.

THE BIG QUESTION FOR THE NRL ROUND 15 PREVIEW

Q. Why does the NRL bother with this round, and does it contradict with their argument they can’t expand due to lack of player depth.

A. Who knows why the NRL continue to block the Origin from being stand alone. Given Sunday night is usually a bigger TV night than Wednesday surely a move to the Sunday night will mean more viewers. There’ll be other arguments too.

So is it hypocritical then that the NRL is happy enough to have a round where 21 players are missing and rely on second tier players when they need to them to because Origin rips out the heart of the NRL comp. Only to say that 2 more teams can’t be supported due to player depth.

We say yes. Perhaps because the NRL is so hopeless running 16 teams that two more wouldn’t be a good idea.

THE GURGLER’S NRL TIPPING COMPETITION

Each week we will supply our tips for the week ahead, plus take on some guest tipsters. They are likely to determined by a ridiculous method. Will arse beat class? Probably. Pity we’re neither.

We have done it for the EPL, but next to none reads it. So we hope to get at least half of those people for the NRL tipping.
