THIS WEEK’S INTRUST SUPER CUP PREVIEW BROUGHT TO YOU BY THIS WEEK’S QUEENSLAND CUP LEGEND – MICHAEL ROBERTS
The Intrust Super Cup returns after a week off, for some. With the Queensland Residents game and heavy involvement across the Pacific Tests, there was a footprint of Queensland’s competition over the International weekend.
A shame Queensland weren’t able to continue their recent domination of NSW in the Residents fixture, but hopefully Queensland’s winning ways continue in the State Championship game at the end of the year.
PNG deservedly get the week off this weekend, given they supplied about the most amount of players of any club into last weekend’s fixtures. Easts too have a bye which guarantee two competition points, which will put pressure on the team in the top 4 to win or be overtaken.
THIS WEEK’S GAMES in 25 WORDS OR LESS
Townsville v Central @ Jack Manski Oval Kick Off – Saturday 4pm
Central have surprised many with their start to 2016, but beating the Blackhawks in Townsville will be a big surprise.
Ipswich v Burleigh @ North Ipswich Reserve Kick Off – Saturday 4:15pm
Burleigh are on a run of paying all of the top 5 plus the premiers. Another loss for Jets makes finals hard.
Northern Pride v Redcliffe Dolphins @ Barlow Park Kick Off – Sunday 1:40pm
Finally Redcliffe are showing how good they can be, the Pride could still be smarting from the heavy home loss to Wynnum last start.
Tweed Heads Seagulls v Sunshine Coast Falcons @ Piggabeen Kick Off – Sunday 2pm
Battle of birds – the Falcons could either be top 6 or mid field obscurity after the trip over the border.
Norths Devils v Souths Logan Magpies @ Bishop Park Kick Off – Sunday 3pm
Two feeder sides feeling the pinch of feeder arrangement with several players missing. Good old fashioned Sunday all Brisbane meeting.
Wynnum Seagulls v Mackay Cutters @ BMD Kougari Oval Kick Off – Monday 3pm
Second last v last with both teams coming off a win last start. Just three wins between them.
A full and better in depth preview is with our friends at Nothing But League where we supply some of the official previews. Catch up with it all here.
THE HUNT FOR PNG OCTOBER
With a side full of PNG Hunters present and past, the Kumuls flew the flag for PNG rugby league over the weekend with a first win on foreign soil for a long time over the Fijians. We supplied a full review of the game at the Nothing But League site.
This success bodes well for the Hunters who are already flying high in the ISC Ladder in 2nd. Especially the form of the Boas brothers in the halves who were top notch.
The Hunters have been given the week off, so with a bonus two on the board they should retain their top 2 spot for another week.
Here’s our selections for this weekend to follow or ignore. Or why not create your own small fortune and have a wager yourself. Responsibly of course.
