The Gurgler’s 2016 TV Week Logies Selections

So Australian TV's night of nights has opened the voting for the public. We know who'll win, so we'll point out who should.

Australian TV has opened the voting for it’s annual awards night, and before the usual suspects and amount of dross is rewarded, we’ll suggest who we think should win as well as plead to the TV Gods that some of the likely winners are shunned.

Not that we’ll watch the ceremony, as the painful silences after a pun laded introduction that goes awry, the industry in-jokes, or the forced laughter are as weak as the most of the shows that will likely win, and as such we are not interested. That and the unnecessary standing ovations which all awards shows have abused over the recent years to the state that the standing ovation has been devalued to the sate of a Zimbabwean Dollar.

You can vote for your favourites here, but why not go through our form guide before hand. A great option that we noticed this year is the option not to vote for certain categories. Some just don’t deserve a single token vote.

BEST ACTOR
Gurgler Tips:
ROB SITCH for UTOPIA – nails the pained employee dealing with fools above who have no idea.
Back up:
Please Not:
Anyone from Home and Away or Neighbours.

BEST ACTRESS
Gurgler Tips:
CELIA PACQUOLA – good enough for just Utopia but added more in The Beautiful Lie too.
Please Note:
As above – anyone from Home and way or Neighbours.

BEST PRESENTER
Gurgler Tips:
JAMES REES aka Jimmy Giggle – anyone who spends most of his days talking to puppet owls deserves some reward.
Back up: Anyone from Play School. Hard yards signing to little kids.
Please Not:
Anyone from The Voice esp any Madden brother.

BEST NEW TALENT
Gurgler Tips:
Don’t Care
Please Not:
Don’t care enough to knock anyone down. Nothing could be worse than previously awarding one to the Maddens.

BEST DRAMA
Gurgler Tips:
Care even less than above
Please Not:
House Husbands although it will probably win.

BEST ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAM
Gurgler Tips:
HAVE YOU BEEN PAYING ATTENTION – the only non sporting show on FTA that The Gurgler will watch religiously.
Back Up:
The Checkout is a good mix of Chaser without too much smug. Or Utopia. Or Kinne and Mad as Hell were very funny too. Danger 5 was very strange but amusing. Pity none of ours will win.
Please Not:
The Voice

BEST NEWS PANEL OR CURRENT AFFAIR SHOW
Gurgler Tips:
None. Maybe Four Corners just so a commercial network doesn’t win.
Please Not:
A Current Affair or even worse The Verdict, proving the LCD in news shows on commercial TV is a falling target.

BEST REALITY PROGRAM
Gurgler Tips:
No thanks.
Please Not:
In a hot field of shows we dislike, anything with Celebrity in the title is the worst of a bad bunch.

BEST SPORTING PROGRAM
Gurgler Tips:
SANTO, SAM and ED’s TOTAL FOOTBALL – if you could vote for it.
Please Not:
THE NRL FOOTY SHOW – so we can finally stop hearing them trying to justify that their show isn’t awful and a significant waste of time for proper rugby league fans because they keep winning Logies. Pfffft.

BEST LIFESTYLE PROGRAM
Gurgler Tips:
GARDENING AUSTRALIA – who couldn’t like Costa?
Please Not:
Anything that basically serves as a half hour advertorial for which ever sponsor is behind the program.

BEST FACTUAL PROGRAM
Gurgler Tips:
Anything from ABC or SBS for their token win of the evening.
Please Not:
MARRIED AT FIRST SIGHT – just dreadful. So Channel 9.

So there you go, and we’re lucky no one reads our website as there would no doubt be howls of protesting at the greatness of the shows we don’t like. But we’re different and don’t care for fads or latest hits before they move to a special new time. We’ve got Foxtel anyway, and Sport awaits.

About Kaaps Loche 214 Articles
Kaaps doesn’t sleep much, and has a 60inch full HD TV and Foxtel, therefore watches more television than most. is also very strange and has a slightly different outlook on life, so comes up with a lot of rubbish that he thinks is funny and usually isn’t. Out of sympathy, we publish his stuff from time to time. So prepare your sympathy laughs and put that lovely drawing on the fridge for Kaaps.
